U.S. Presidential Election 2024: Kamala Harris, Donald Trump Lead Political Discourse in September
As of late September 2024, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are dominating the conversation surrounding the U.S. presidential election.
Part of what’s getting these candidates on top is some of the key issues and polling performances on both sides competing in what promises to be a very competitive election.
Rising Popularity among Young Voters: Kamala Harris
Indeed, she has filled the shoes of Joe Biden, being the new Democratic front-runner, and really capitalized on that by getting much support, especially among the young people. Recent polls gave her a much higher lead over Trump a 23-point advantage over Trump among voters younger than 30.
This now represents a significant shift from the earlier polling that indicated a much more closely contested race between Biden and Trump. The changeover from Biden to Harris has rejuvenated the Democratic base, particularly the young demographics, who are the new raging battleground and increasingly critical in modern elections.
Appeal on Climate Change, among other pivotal issues: The appeal of Harris among young voters is largely found in how she stands on pivotal issues such as climate change, abortion rights, health care, and gun control.
These happen to be some of the major concerns most young Americans have, and her policies resonate with them because they reflect their progressive values. In addition, her personal qualities, such as empathy, honesty, and likeability, rank very high as what drive her campaign.
Compared to Trump, who tends to score lower in these characteristics, she is winning an electorate more emotionally invested in values for a leader that take into account more such factors.
 Donald Trump’s Base of Support
While Harris gains in popularity with younger and even more liberal voters, Donald Trump continues to receive strong support in the more conservative parts of the country, particularly among older voters.
The economic policies of Trump, which focus on deregulation, cuts in taxes, and the creation of jobs, continue to appeal to those voters.
In fact, whereas Harris maintains a very significant edge on social issues, Trump actually slightly edges out Harris on economic matters, at least on matters where many voters continue to look to him for strength.
Election center could concentrate on Trump with inflation, job growth, and living costs still at the forefront of so many people’s minds across much of the country. His ability to control the economic narrative may work in his favor with some key votes, not least a key battleground state.
The race remains exceedingly tight in several of the most crucial swing states, like Arizona and North Carolina, where polling shows almost a tie between Harris and Trump. These battlegrounds will surely seal the outcome of the election since both the candidates will try to gain the hearts of the undecided voters of these regions.
Harris’s progressive policies could more easily be understood by the majority of the voters in urban areas, as well as the youth, whereas Trump’s focus on economic conservatism, tradition, and old-fashioned moral values can surely appeal more to those rural communities, older people, or even elderly candidates.
Campaign Strategies Before the Elections
As this campaign is now near its end, Harris strives to mobilize not only the youth but the rest of the more progressive and minority constituencies. Her campaign is even more driven by getting people stoked up in communities that may have voted in a somewhat disappointed manner in previous elections.
So, if things keep going this way, expect her to double down on the issues of climate change, healthcare, and social justice-hard issues for most left-wing voters.
On his side, Trump focuses on building up an old economically worried electoral base as well as attempts to court independent voters in crucial swing states. His message has centered itself considerably around economic stability and has fortified his campaign to win in November by attacking the progressive policies of Harris.
The fluid nature of the 2024 Election
Only a few months remain until election day, and the race still remains fluid. Harris is already on top of several demographic groups while in Trump’s strongholds and at the level of the battleground states, which of course leaves open the prospect of either election outcome going either way.
Both the campaigns need to evolve and respond accordingly to the pressing issues at the national level, and the next few weeks will be very decisive for molding the final outcome.
It is going to be, apparently, the closest election of a U.S. president for 2024: Kamala Harris has gained significant momentum amongst the votes of young ones, and Donald Trump has maintained a solid base of supporters in the older, conservative sectors.
The outcome would, probably, come down to how each candidate can most effectively appeal to undecided voters in key swing states as well as how they address the most pressing issues facing the country.
